Detailed Itinerary
We all know that Ken didn't want us to mourn his passing with a formal and somber event. Instead, we have chosen to honor his love of a good time by planning a celebration at one of his favorite places. Ken loved Key West, though it is hard to pinpoint exactly what he cherished most about it. Maybe it was the freedom of having no set schedule, the time spent with family, the late-night steak sandwiches, or perhaps the joy of a 9AM beer without judgement. Whatever the reason, he never missed a chance to go (Well, except the time Gary and I eloped - he's been kicking himself for missing that ever since). Sometimes we would fly, sometimes we would drive, making memorable stops along the way. Dad of course could never remember the name of any of them and would always text us, "What is that place Gary and I like to stop at?" On one trip Gary made a rum concoction in a huge jug, and he and Dad drank it as we took the back roads. By the time we reached the Middle Keys, they were both so drunk that we had to stop for dinner and spend the night. This weekend, we are taking Tony on the infamous drive, making it kid-friendly, of course, and showing him all the places that Poppop loved to visit with us and why he loved Key West so much. We hope to share some of the same memories with all of you and maybe even tell a story you haven't already heard.
Day 1: Friday, August 23, 2024
We are going to host a short little pub crawl to introduce you to each other and to Ken's favorite places. I've taken into consideration the fact that not everyone is able to walk long distances and that not everyone may want to drink. This will just be a fun way for us all to get to know each other and discover what Ken loved most about each place we visit. The pub crawl will end at Mallory Square where we can enjoy the sunset as well as the street performers. Event starts at 3:30 pm at Captain Tony's. Click the image for more details.
(If you want the full Ken experience, feel free to tag along for the extended version where we visit some additional locations and end the evening with a late-night snack)
Day 2: Saturday, August 24, 2024
Join us as we go on a sunset memorial boat ride to scatter Ken's ashes. The boat leaves promptly at 5:30 pm and will allow us to give him the proper send off.
After the boat ride, scheduled transportation will take us to dinner at 8:00pm at The Conch Republic Seafood Company located at the historic seaport.
